2023 SCBA – Practical (Mayday) Training

Practical Day Training:

Days 3 & 4 – October 25 & 26, 2023 (8 hours class per shift, 480 minutes)

Due to time constraints all of the following video material should be watched by each firefighter prior to the second day of training (Practical Trainings). Please set the captions to translate to Spanish for each video listed.

Review ICS Presentation, ICS Civil Protection Model, Mayday Decision Tree, Mayday Checklist, ICS Tactical & Mayday Worksheet. Command and firefighters will use these as resources to ensure safety and firefighter accountability.

09:00 – 10:00 Calling the Mayday: Review of Calling the Mayday Decision Tree, ICS company assignments, and Mayday Tactical Checklist & ICS Tactical Worksheet. A review of classroom from Monday and Tuesday, questions and discussion of the impact of pre-class media assignments, and and overview of each practical session:

Station 1- Firefighter falls into something – call a Mayday

Station 2 – Something falls onto a firefighter – call a Mayday

Station 3 – Lost or trapped or disoriented firefighter – call a Mayday

Station 4 – Firefighter is low on air – call a Mayday

10:10 – 12:00 Breakouts into Mayday practical stations: 1 – 4, by assigned companies.

12:12:45 Lunch

12:45 – 14:45 Denver & Pittsburgh Drills, two stations with one half class at each Practical station.

14:55 – 16:45 EBSS and RIT. Using the Pittsburgh prop, EBSS and RIT deployment will be major emphasis. All companies together to ensure adequate companies for success. Command will perform the Mayday tactical checklist and tactical worksheet for each evolution.

16:45 – 17:00 Hot Wash / Review of Stations and Instructor Observations and Evaluations / Student Feedback
